Preparations underway for WIS 47 project

The Village of Black Creek recently held a public meeting on plans to reconstruct sewer and water main service along Maple, Forest and Main streets.The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is preparing for major highway projects beginning in June on WIS 47 from Black Creek north to WIS 29 this year, according to Kristin McHugh in the Rhinelander DOT district office which is coordinating the project.

Next year, WIS 47 from Burdick Street to the North Black Creek Village limits will be constructed under traffic using flagging operations. That work is currently scheduled to begin May 2011 and will conclude in June 2011.

During the 2010 construction project, crews will resurface the highway with asphalt. Other improvements include culvert replacements and construction of passing lanes.

For most traffic going north, the detour will start at U.S. 41 in Appleton, sending drivers to WIS 55 in Kaukauna, north through Seymour to WIS 29.

A shorter detour will start at CTH S south of Black Creek and run through Freedom.

The work on 47 north of Black Creek will add safety and other features.

Passing lane locations will be located between CTH G/Meyer Road and Deerview, and Shawano CTH S and Landstad.

Safety improvements included in the work this year:

• Improved sight distances at intersections;

• Bicycle accommodations added between County VV and County F;

• Extend turn lanes at: CTH G, Deerview Road, CTH VV, Nichols Road, WIS 156 and CTH S.

• Crews will flatten the roadway side slopes.
