Shiocton took a couple of close losses in CWC-8 baseball last week but learned it will have a home game to start WIAA tournament play.
The Chiefs, seed third in their Division 3 regional, will host No. 6 Gillett Friday. The winner will travel to No. 2 seed Coleman on June 1. Elsewhere in the bracket, No. 4 Manawa hosts No. 5 Menominee Indian on Friday with the winner playing at top-seed Bonduel.
Manawa 6, Shiocton 5
At Shiocton on May 17, Tyler Hass had two hits and Corey Sullivan drove in two runs to lead Manawa to the victory.
Shiocton (8-7, 7-5) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to narrow the gap to 6-5, but a fielder’s choice grounder with a runner on first ended the threat.
Cody Leiterman took the loss, while Steve Slater had two hits for the Chiefs.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood 13, Shiocton 10
In a wild game May 18, Wittenberg-Birnamwood outlasted the Chiefs in Shiocton. Shiocton took a 5-2 lead after three but the Chargers scored eight runs in the fourth. Shiocton rallied with four runs in the fifth and the tying run in the sixth but W-B scored its winning runs in the seventh. Derek Van Straten took the loss on the mound and hit a double, as did Slater and Brock Pahlow.
