Seymour softball splits pair of close games

Seymour had two close games in Bay Conference softball last week, winning one in extra innings and losing the other by a run.

Seymour 8,
Oconto Falls 6 (10)

Seymour traveled to Oconto Falls on April 22 and won a thrilling extra inning game. Erica Hendzel got the starting nod on the mound and was relieved after 3 innings with the score tied 5-5. Maggie Blohm picked up the win as she pitched the next seven innings and allowed a run on six hits while striking out two and walking one.
The Seymour offense erupted for 16 hits in the contest. Pacing the Thunder was Whitney Leisgang who had four hits (three singles and a triple) in six at-bats. Olivia Danforth and Caty Socwell each collected three hits while Blohm and Michelle Brill had two hits apiece.
In the decisive 10th inning, Courtney Banker led off with a triple only to have Karissa Rettler drive her home one out later on an inside the park home run to create the two-run cushion which held up.
Paige Leisgang worked out a bases-loaded walk to drive in Whitney Leisgang and put the Thunder up 7-6; the host Panthers, however, scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
Seymour was able to strand Oconto Falls baserunners on second and third with no outs and the score tied in the bottom of the seventh.
