Retired police chief Eugene “Butch” Bunnell returned back to the Shiocton Police Department in a different capacity.
The Village of Shiocton board approved on Monday, April 9, for Bunnell to return part-time as Chief Administrator for the police department.
Bunnell, who first needed to be retired 31 days before he could return, will work 11.5 hours a week.
Laurie Bunnell, village clerk, said that will average to about 600 hours a year, which the board approved in the 2012 budget.
Also discussed by the board was the burning of leaves.
Due to the recent nice stretch of weather, leaves are being burned, and there were complaints of the smell and smoke.
The board is considering a possible change to the burning ordinance but for now tabled the item and instead said their needs to be better communication on the leaf disposal issue.
A brochure is being developed and will address leaf disposal and will be distributed with the June water bills to the residents of the village.
Cheryl Pahlow informed the board that money was left over from the Shiocton girl’s softball trip to Florida and that they would like to donate it towards a flag pole between the two diamonds on the east end of the village.
The pole would be 25 feet in length to display a 5×8 foot flag and would use solar lights.
She said there would be no cost to the village just that they would dig the hole and that she would work with the company that installed the other flag pole.
The board approved the motion for the new flag pole.
