Veterans Memorial planned for Black Creek

Duhm-Masch American Legion Post 332, together with the Black Creek Advancement Association, is proud to announce that the two groups have joined for-ces to launch a campaign to create a veterans’ memorial in Black Creek.
Representatives of both groups have met several times to gauge interest in the project and affirmed the creation of a committee charged with determining its location, design and funding needs on Monday, May 20.
Many have talked about the desire and need for a veterans’ memorial in Black Creek over the years, but no formal effort was ever launched. Then, in 2010, Peggy and the late Larry Drephal suggested that the Advancement Association, to which the couple belonged, make a veterans’ memorial its next community project. BCAA members researched and discussed options off and on for two years before bringing the idea to the Legion early this year. The Legion received the project enthusiastically and several of its members, with representatives of the BCAA, now comprise the committee that will formulate a plan for making a veterans’ memorial a reality.
As members of the Black Creek Veterans’ Memorial Committee, the Legion and BCAA members will now begin the task of determining the scope of the project. Watch the Advertiser Community News & Times-Press for updates on the committee’s progress and more information on the project as it becomes available.
