Village sees decrease of refuse going to landfill due to recycling carts

The Black Creek village board met on Monday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m.
The board reviewed and discussed business recycling, businesses will need to supply their own hauler for pickup as businesses are by law required to recycle. The landfill does spot audits on what’s being delivered and the village could be fined if caught. The DNR has literature available to help enhance their recycling.
Rochelle Oskey reviewed the tonnage of refuse sent to the landfill prior to and after the recycling carts were distributed in November, she said there was a significant decrease.
Police Chief James stated Bonnie Pierce from Fiber and Pallet on Railroad Street would take cardboard only, and she would add more containers if needed.
Pat Amerson Legion member, updated everyone on the Veteran’s Memorial progress; contracts are signed with Appleton Marble and Lang’s, and Birling Bovine has donated the time to prep the site work. Upon completion, the Legion would like to turn everything over to the village; Legion is drawing up an agreement with Perry Pierre and will present at completion.
The board discussed the storm sewer extension on East Birch Street and ditch cleaning at south park; Vernon Karweick owns the field east of the ditch line and plans to remove all the trees and tile after he submits his drainage plan with Outagamie County. Gerry Schuette recently walked the area with Karweick so they are aware of each other’s plans. Schuette has estimated the sewer extension on East Birch to be approximately $2,794 and the ditch cleaning to be approximately $4,800 for a total of $7,594. The board approved RJM to perform the storm sewer extension on East Birch Street and ditch cleaning at south park.
