From the Mayor’s Desk

Hi…. Well let’s see what I can update you on. The city has been pretty quiet with the change coming on your Council. Tomorrow night the new Council will take it’s seat at 7 p.m. Our auditors will be making their presentation of last year’s audit which should bring the new Council up to date on the financial situation of the city which is always a help in moving forward.
At last week’s meeting, the Council again thanked Darlene Werner and Ann Huettl-Samson for their service to our city and after the meeting adjourned we served everyone cake and soda.
The first calendar out for picking up yard waste did not reflect that we were picking up on April 3rd (that’s the one I had and reported out to you…sorry). We again pick up on April 18th and then every other week after that. Please remember that you can put your brush in tubs, provided it fits. Branches do not have to be bundled but must be neatly set to the curb with cut branch to the road. These can be no longer than 4 feet long and the piles can be no longer than 4 feet high. The piles can run the length of your terrace but, remember, again 4 feet long and 4 feet high. Also remember, you can run your brush down to the clean fill at the DPW which is open Monday, Tuesday – Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I loaded my trailer with a full load last week and took it down to the landfill. It’s hard to believe that you can keep a clean landfill that neat. But the signs are up that direct you to where you need to go, and it is really easy to unload. Personally, I think if you have a large amount of yard waste, and you have the ability to haul it yourself, it’s easier to throw it on the trailer or a pickup than hauling it out to your terrace and properly placing it there.
I have had some complaints on individuals placing large items on the curb and leaving them there for days. Anything that cannot be broken up and placed in the cart you need to call Harter’s to schedule a pickup, 715-253-2619 or 888-804-8556. The city will pay for any two large items, and if you have more, it will be at the resident’s expense. These items will be picked up on Wednesday the week of recycling. Please call by 2 p.m. Tuesday the day prior to pick-up.
One last thing, you need to be able to close your lids on all garbage and recycle containers.
These are some of the complaints I have received, so I am passing them on to you.
