From the Mayor’s Desk

Hi. Well, things are popping in the city. I will start with Rockledge Park. The parking lot behind the diamonds has been surfaced. You will notice a pile of dirt between the two parking lots which we received for free from the dental clinic project. The dirt was extremely wet so we are leaving it dry out before leveling it and grassing the area. The work on the Scout House has been started. If you go by there you will see the new windows being installed by the city crew, and the basement entrance from the outside being redone. There is a lot more work being done on “mostly” the outside and you will notice it as that takes place. I want to thank the city crew for all the work they did this winter on the bleachers (which are in school colors) benches, etc. Little by little we are trying to upgrade our parks. I know ball diamond lights still need to be addressed.
I just want to again remind you that brush pickup is twice a month on Mondays the same week as recycling pickup. You cannot have your brush out more than two days ahead of time, also I want to remind you that you cannot blow your lawn clipping into the gutter or road. It is the start of the season so we have not enforced this but if it continues we will start ticketing. Sorry about that but it is a pretty simple request.
Last Monday night, Council met at 7 p.m. The resolutions they passed were approving the underdrain system for Foote Street. For those who don’t know what that is, it is a drainage system that will drain the water that accumulates under Foote Street that stops us from making Foote Street a nice flat street. We tried a drainage system a while ago which was less expensive and we thought might work. It didn’t so we are going with the underdrain system.
The Council approved the purchase of a breaker and a backhoe, approved the painting of the city- owned building on Elizabeth Street.
Police officer Jason Schmitz was sworn in as a full-time officer and we welcome him to Seymour. Officer Schmitz has done a great job the last year and we are confident this will continue.
Our auditors gave us the audit report for 2016 and the city is in a very good financial position.
The resolution to proceed with installing a cellular meter reading system was also approved. You have noticed I’m sure that we have started the monthly water billing system.
I am running out of room but there is so much to report to you that is going on in our city most of it good things, I will be reporting them out later. The other items that were discussed were the dog park at Lake Park, opening the lake, putting in sidewalks on Wis 54 and extensive discussion on the purchase of an aerial truck and a security system for the Fire Department.
Courts & Public Safety and Finance Committee met last Wednesday night and was a very interesting meeting. We discussed a lot of issues and I will report them out next week.
“Oh,” I will have met with Bonnie Planner in Appleton last Friday on the nutrition site and will report that out next week.
