Shiocton Food and Toy Drive Kicks Off with Donation from the Lions Club

Each year, the Shiocton High School Student Council organizes a food and toy drive to assist families in need in our community around Christmas time, and each year the Lions Club makes a very generous donation, providing much of the funding necessary to assure this event is a success. This year was no exception as Lion’s Club president, Chuck Pluger, presented Student Council treasurer, Jordan Ott, with a sizable check during the November 6 Shiocton School Board Meeting.
“We value the Lions Club donation each year as we use it to provide gift cards for children who are too old for toys. Without the Lions Club donation, we would not be able to purchase these gift cards,” said Student Council advisor, Elizabeth Schneider.
Student Council members are excited to get started this week by sharing the importance of this event and encouraging students to bring donations. Any items, including monetary donations, will be accepted and greatly appreciated at any time, but in an effort to secure the variety of items needed, Student Council focuses on collecting specific items during specific weeks. The suggested donation schedule is:
November 13-17, Canned Food/Condiments
November 20-24, Boxed Food/Toys
November 27 – December 1, Personal Hygiene Products/Toys
December 4 – 8, Baby Products/Paper Goods (toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, etc.)
*Please submit monetary donations by this time as we need time to shop for items.
December 11-15, Any Food or Toys
December 18-19, Delivery to Families. Families will be notified of time and date.
Donations can be made in any classroom, as the class who donates the most will earn an ice cream sundae party, or to any office at any time.
