Shiocton school’s January Character Trait: Tolerance

Tolerance refers to an attitude of openness and respect for differences and for people who differ from us. Tolerance means to not only respect differences among others, but to learn from others and value these differences.
Things that can help kids learn tolerance:
•Remember that kids are always listening.
Be aware of the way you talk about people who are different.
•Select books, toys, music, movies, etc., carefully. Keep in mind the effect that media has on shaping attitudes and beliefs.
•Acknowledge and respect differences among family members. Celebrate the uniqueness.
•Help your children feel good about themselves.
Kids with strong self-esteems value and respect themselves and others.
