Nichols Turns 100

As we closed the year 2017, the nature of many of us was to reflect on the past year, take stock in our present, and motivate ourselves for change in the future. Just as this yearly process goes on within us personally, so should our insight into our community’s past, present, and future. History is a vital part of our education into understanding change and how the society we live in came to be. By looking to the past, history can tell us how we evolved.
The year 2018 will be significant for the Village of Nichols. Nichols will be celebrating its 100th birthday and plans are underway for bringing into light the many changes our community experienced from its birth in 1918 to the present.
The forward thinking and diligent men and women who created the community of Nichols out of the Wisconsin wilderness deserve our eternal gratitude. Their story and the stories of all those who contributed to, shared time and efforts in, and supported the well-being in the making of Nichols since deserve to be preserved and shared.
The Nichols Centennial Committee is making its goal to share and preserve these stories by holding a centennial celebration on Saturday, September 8, 2018. They are hoping to showcase the experiences of daily lives and the challenges of the folks who settled in the village and to honor the people, places, and traditions that make Nichols so special today.
The committee invites any person wishing to contribute to the task of preserving Nichols’ history by sharing photos, stories, memorabilia, etc., to please contact a committee member at (920) 525-4184 or attend any meeting held on the second Mondays of the month.
It takes many to put together a historical celebration and community involvement is imperative. Let’s all make the centennial celebration about looking forward as much as it is about celebrating the past.
