Matt Peterson, senior at Shiocton High School signed a letter of Intent for Viterbo University on Wednesday, April 25.
Basketball Coach Chad Schmidt said, “Matt has been awarded an athletic scholarship from Viterbo. Coach said, it’s a Peterson family thing, mom and dad did a lot to help Matt accomplish this goal.”
Coach said that there had been only four others, including Matt that have received an athletic scholarship in Shiocton’s history, so this is a big deal.”
He said, “In his freshman year, Matt was on the smaller side to play basketball but it’s not how you start but how you finish. Matt is a special person.”
Peterson has worked hard over the years in basketball with the support of his parents.
Peterson thanked everyone for showing up for the signing and said that he had played basketball for eight years, where he reached five feet his sophomore year.
Peterson said, “Playing basketball in college has always been a lifelong goal. I planned to work as hard as anybody, take the direction of my coach and my team and trust the process. I love playing the game of basketball, and I’m grateful and excited to have the opportunity to continue my athletic and academic career playing for Coach Wagner at Viterbo University. Without the support of my teammates, coaches, friends, teachers and the community of Shiocton this achievement would not have been possible.
Thank you for everything.
In closing, I would like to thank Coach Schmidt and my parents for helping me realize this dream and that no goal is unattainable if you have the willpower to see it through.”
