The event had a beautiful day, Shiocton Steps for Suicide Awareness, which was held on Saturday, May 5 that started and ended at the River Rail. They had 220 registered walkers, and also had several volunteers come and help to support an important cause to so many in our village along with several other area communities.
Former Green Bay Packer Player Chester Marcol was the guest speaker for the day, and they had The National Anthem sung by Vic Scheller. The walkers observed a moment of silence for all of their loved ones they were missing, and then launched a balloon send off to remember them all before they began our walk.
There was a very good raffle turn out, having about 25 prizes donated. Several area business and individual monetary donations were made to the event, and Deb Van Straten wanted to thank everyone who contributed to their first annual walk. The money raised and how the event holders will spend it is to be determined yet, but once they know the specifics, they will make sure to let the community know.
