Seymour Legion goes 1-2 in regional, ends season at 6-14

The Seymour Legion Post 106 baseball team finished 1-2 at the Kaukauna Regional and was eliminated from further tournament play. Seymour ends their season with a 6-14 record. New London won the Regional Tournament by defeating Kaukauna 11-3 in the championship game, and will advance to the State Legion Class AA Tournament at Baraboo which begins on Friday, July 27. Freedom also won the Clintonville Regional Tournament and will advance to the State Legion Class A Tournament in Osseo.
For the season, Seymour was led offensively by Peyton Dorn with a .392 BA, 20 hits and 18 runs scored. Dorn also had an OBP of .500. Owen Geurts had a .377 BA, with 23 hits and an outstanding 28 runs driven in.
Kendal Lecker was Seymour’s leading pitcher for the season with a record of 3-1 and 32 2/3 innings pitched. Lecker only gave up 10 earned runs for an ERA of 2.17.
The Seymour 16U JV team finished their season with a record of 8-5 in Legion play, including a win in their Regional.

In the last regular season game of the year, Waupaca scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Post 106 in a West Division game played at Lakemen Field. Seymour ends division play with a record of 3-7. Trevor Cornell and David Michaelson both had doubles for Post 106. Kadin Wanty drove in the winning run for Waupaca.

The Clippers scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on three hits and a wild pitch to hand Post 106 their first loss in the Regional Tournament. Ian Benecke led Seymour with three hits and an RBI, while David Michaelson had two hits including a double.

Seymour 7 Waupaca 1 Regional
Post 106 scored three runs in the first inning to stake an early lead that they never relinquished. With the win, Post 106 advanced in the double elimination format of the Legion tournament. Owen Geurts and Trevor Cornell led Seymour offensively with two hits and two RBI’s each. Aiden Linsmeyer and Tyce Leisgang came in from the bullpen to preserve the win for Seymour. Leisgang struck out the final two hitters he faced in the top of the seventh inning.

Menasha 13 Seymour 10 Regional
Seymour pitching had trouble consistently throwing strikes on Saturday, walking 12 batters and hitting two others, and this ultimately was the deciding factor in the loss to the Twins. With the loss, Post 106 was eliminated from Regional play. Trevor Cornell, Nick Volz, and Javon Leisgang all had two hits and two RBI’s to lead the Seymour offense. After Menasha jumped out to a 5-0 lead, Post 106 scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to regain control of the game. But the Twins followed with five runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth and added three more in the sixth inning to secure the win.
