The Shiocton School Board met at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9 in the LMC.
In reports, Board Member Stacey Warning brought the board up to date on the Shiocton Child Care Center (SCCC). There are currently 20 children enrolled and the child care committee approved the purchase of the outdoor play equipment which will be split into two different sections, one for 1-3 year olds and one for 3 -5 year olds with adequate fencing and a sun shade.
Superintendent Nichole Schweitzer talked about attending the Dr. Greene conference and the Learning FIRST conference with some teachers and parents and is excited about implementing the new techniques they learned.
In new business, the board of education discussed and took action on accepting the monetary donations from Modern Woodmen in the amount of $315 and River Rail in the amount of $1,000 to the new SCCC. The donations will go towards purchasing outdoor play equipment.
They also took action to accept the donation of $11,500 from the Shiocton Hoops Club for the new enhanced scoreboard in the high school gym.
The board discussed and took action to hire Julie Buser, as district administrative assistant, Dan Chandler as high school math teacher, Dom Gunderson as Assistant Varsity Football Coach, Brett Brown as assistant varsity football Coach, Hallie Bruss as SCCC teacher and Tara Nabbefeld as SCCC teacher. They unanimously approved hiring all of these new teachers and coaches.
The board acknowledged the first readings of various board bylaws with changes in wording which they will review again at a later date.
In old business, Schweitzer reported that the multi-purpose facility construction is on schedule and hopefully should open on Nov. 1 if Mother Nature cooperates.
The SCCC is also on schedule however, the steel tariffs, are delaying some of the progress with the outdoor play area, but they have a work around.

The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. in the LMC.
