The first week of school brings big fortune for the Seymour Cross Country team.
The Thunder participated in the Wittenberg/ Birnamwood Charger Invite on Sept. 4. Seymour runners felt the challenge due to the hilly course and rain showers that delayed the meet. Although the course was pretty slippery the Seymour boys did just fine taking third place out of 11 teams. The top three boys were senior Riley Volkman who took second running a 18:16, freshman Gunar Weyer who took ninth running a 19:15 and sophomore Blake Linsmeyer who took 19th running a 19:45. The girls also did well taking third place out of 11 teams The top three girls where senior Laura Spuade who took seventh running a 22:58, senior Paige Weyer who took 13th running a 24:04 and sophomore Zoey Engebos who took 28th running a 25:19. Coach Scott Michalski was very pleased with the team’s performance considering the slippy course conditions.
On Saturday, Sept. 8 the Thunder again traveled north and participated in the Shawano Invitational. Thunder Varsity boys runners were senior Riley Volkman who took second running a 16:54, Blake Linsmeyer who took 11th running a 17:57, Riley Clement who took 16th running a 18:11, Gunner Weyer who took eighth running a 18:12, Jacob Woldt who took 26th running a 18:39 and Ty Witthuhn who took 47th running a 20:00. The boys took first place earning themselves a trophy for the their performance. It was a great week for the Thunder!
