Seymour boy’s soccer wins regional, advances to sectional semi-finals

On Thursday, Oct. 18 the Thunder faced off against the Winneconne Wolves in the regional semi-final game.
Seymour gained the advantage in the first minute when Reid Johnson headed in a goal off a corner kick from Keven Sosa-Lassila. Seymour’s Teig Driessen would score the second goal of the night in the 42nd minute with the assist going to Rhett Driessen. The final goal of the game came in the 57th minute when Jaron Valley knocked one in the goal off a ball played by Teig Driessen. Seymour 3 – Winneconne 0.
On Saturday Seymour’s opponent in the regional final was the Wrightstown Tigers. Playing against the wind, Seymour fought tough for their first half goals. Teig Driessen connected with Mason Dorn in the 20th minute to give Seymour a 1-0 lead. In the 36th minute Rhett Driessen scored with the assist again coming from Teig Driessen. The final goal of the first half was scored by Teig Driessen in the 40th minute off a ball played by Rhett Driessen. With the wind at their backs the second half Seymour was striking the ball frequently, hoping to create more goal scoring opportunities. The work paid off, Teig Driessen scored again with the assist coming from Garrett Wendorff in the 61st minute. Two minutes later in the 63rd minute, Garrett Wendorff struck in a banger for the score off a beautiful ball played by Daniel Inman. Rhett Driessen would wrap up the game with two more goals, completing the hat trick for the game. His goals came in the 73rd and 77th minute, with both assists coming from Keven Sosa-Lassila. Wrightstown did also manage to score a goal of their own in the 75th minute. Seymour 7 – Wrightstown 1, Seymour winning the regional final and advancing another week in the D3 soccer playoffs.
The first seed Seymour Thunder faces off against the fourth seeded Plymouth Panthers on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. at home. The winner of the sectional semi-final will play against the winner of the (#7) Xavier Hawks vs (#3) Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at Plymouth High School.
