Paige Scott is a senior at Shiocton High School who also is in her second year of the Wolf River School to Work Youth Apprenticeship Program as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Scott took her CNA course at the Fox Valley Technical School in the summer before her junior year.
Scott said, “I enjoy it, and the classes are paid for, plus I get paid while I work as a CNA also.
“It gives you an opportunity to get your foot in the door and get some experience to see if it’s what you want to do as a career.”
Scott works every other weekend at Good Sheperd Services in Seymour, while attending her high school classes during the week. She works more hours in the summer and she receives the salary that a CNA gets. She is treated just like another employee.
Scott said, “I definitely recommend this program to my peers, It gives you a jump start for college and your college classes, plus it pays for those classes also, while you make money working. I couldn’t have done this any other way, I love this and it’s working really well.”
Scott’s inspiration is her cousin, who she looks up to and is a nurse. Also, her father is a firefighter with a health science background which also sparked her interest in the health field.
Scott plans to continue her education and to get her four year bachelor degree in nursing.
