A pickup truck fire closed down part of County Highway G west of French Road, Seymour.
Greg Brown, Seymour Rural Fire Department fire chief, said the fire was reported at 2:46 p.m. on Dec. 26. The fire was just west of French Road on County Highway G.
Brown said a pickup truck was towing a piece of construction equipment and the pickup truck overheated and started on fire.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s department was the first on scene according to Brown. Brown said when they arrived they were informed that there were 80 rounds of ammunition in the pickup that had detonated in the truck during the fire. Due to the possible danger of the ammunition going off Brown said they didn’t approach the vehicle until they had sprayed it with water to put out the fire.
The pickup truck is owned by Jon Heinke, Seymour. Brown said no one was injured in the fire but there was slight damage to the road.
Seymour Rural and Seymour City fire departments both responded to the incident as well as the Outagamie County Sheriff’s department. Brown said they cleared the scene at 3:45 p.m. and Highway G was closed for one hour and 10 minutes.
