Thunder girls’ soccer played two non conference home games the week of April 22.
The first game of the week was in wet conditions against Green Bay Preble on Thursday, April 25. Seymour was shutout, losing 5-0. Preble’s first two goals came in the first half and the following three goals came in the second half. Both teams played hard through the rain that accompanied the game.
The Thunder’s second game of the week was on a very windy Friday, April 26 against Fox Valley Lutheran. The Foxes were able to have the wind at their back for the first half, but Seymour didn’t let that stop them jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. The goal was scored by Taylor Olsen who had a long run up the middle of the field past the defense to a through ball played by Kelcie Karweick. Both teams remained scoreless for the rest of the first half. Starting the second half Seymour was able to have the wind on their back allowing them to control the game and keep the ball on their offensive end. About halfway through the second half Fox Valley Lutheran tried to clear a ball and Kennedy Peters shot it one touch from 30 yards out to score the Thunder’s second goal of the game. Seymour ended up winning 2-0 with goalie Brooklyn Steltz recording her first shutout. The Thunder’s defensive line stayed strong throughout the game to not allow Fox Valley Lutheran many offensive chances.
Seymour looks forward to next week when they play a conference game against Shawano at home on Tuesday and a tournament in Seymour on Saturday.
