The Chiefs softball team traveled to Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Friday, May 10.
The game did not start out in Shiocton’s favor as the Chiefs fell behind after a groundout by the Chargers’ Abi Fraaza. The Chargers scored next during the top of the third inning bringing the score to 2-0. During the bottom of the third inning, Carley Kriewaldt singled on a ground ball to shortstop, allowing Larissa Young to score. With a 2-1 lead over the Chiefs, Wittenberg-Birnamwood continued to slam the scoreboard, scoring two points in one play during the top of the fourth inning. Kriewaldt, back up to bat during the bottom of the fifth inning, singled on a ground ball to shortstop, allowing Cassidy Defferding to score. Despite some good plays, the Chiefs were still down 4-2 before the Chargers scored four points during the sixth inning. The rest of the game would go scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Taylir Schmidt singled on a fly ball to shortstop, allowing Defferding to reach home plate.
Despite the loss of 8-3 against Wittenberg-Birnamwood, the Chiefs came back with a victory over Bonduel on Saturday, May 11. Shiocton took the win during that game with scores by Erica Gassner and Young. The final score was 4-2.
